PTA Ideas Meeting
The PTA held a well-attended ideas meeting on Thursday, 5 October in the school hall.
Smitham PTA raise money to fund the purchase of extra resources and facilities which help to make Smitham Primary School & Nursery such a great environment for our children to learn. However, this doesn't happen by itself, we need the help of parents and carers to make it all work! Consequently, it was good to see so many new Reception parents sharing their ideas and enthusiam.
The pictures show our 'ideas board' which we will examine in more detail at our next committee meeting.
As you will know by now, the school expansion is underway!
The main part of the scheme is a two-storey block located between the car park and the nursery/reception classrooms. Additionally, a new single-storey block will be built next to the pond (opposite class 3J). This will be the breakfast and after-school clubs' new home and will feature a kitchen and toilets making it useable for events on the school field! According to the plans lodged with Croydon Council, the outdoor classroom (behind the pond on the school field) is to be removed, but this is yet to be confirmed by the school.
The main block will house nine classrooms, a hall, a Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and a nursery room. The PTA have been asked to raise money to furnish and equip the LRC - the Education Authority will only be furnishing the new classrooms with the basics.
We have been asked to raise £10,000 by September 2018 when the new block will open and the school becomes three-form entry.
We're kickstarting our fundraising with a BIG Christmas Prize Draw - more info coming soon!
